// The Challenge

News consumption is broken. People either read a handful of sources that confirm their existing views, or try to follow dozens of outlets and get overwhelmed. There's no tool that shows what sources agree on, reveals political bias in real time, or helps readers understand a story from genuinely different analytical perspectives. We wanted to build a "daily intelligence briefing" for everyone — not just politicians.

// The Solution

We built Dibbed — a cross-platform app (iOS, Android, Web) using Expo and React Native from a single codebase. The system aggregates news from multiple sources, cross-references them against a database of 215+ rated news organisations (using AllSides and MBFC bias/reliability data), and calculates consensus scores for each story. AI analysis powered by Claude generates executive summaries, fact-check assessments, and six distinct analyst perspectives (Skeptic, Historian, Economist, Geopolitician, Contrarian, Humanitarian) for major stories. A blind spot detection system tracks reading patterns and alerts users when they're consistently missing certain perspectives. The architecture is cost-optimised — daily briefing generation costs approximately $0.01/day by caching AI analysis and using free-tier news APIs.
